In the role of Principal Planner, you will lead the delivery of transport planning projects across the state and support the Planning Manager by:

- Providing technical guidance for a broad range of complex/sensitive/large transport planning initiatives, including Regional Transport Plans and area and mobility studies.
- Contributing to developing and maintaining constructive communications andcollaborative relationships with other parts of TMR, as well as external agencies, partners and stakeholders.
- Providing suppor t to other members within the team.

**Accountabilities include**:

- Lead strategic transport projects including regional and areas studies across thestate, ensuring that all planning is undertaken in a multi-modal, integrated, affordable and value for money context. (Applies an advanced understanding of transport and land use planning principles).
- Identify strategic needs an d priorities for development of transport networks including options and recommendations for specific issues.
- Lead stakeholder engagement, including developing effective working relationships with local governments, passenger transport service providers, industry groups, relevant departmental divisions, and affected landowners (Commits to achieving quality outcomes and seeks feedback from stakeholders to gauge satisfaction).
- Provide expert, strategic advice to the Planning Manager and senior officers in relation to project risks, issues and opportunities.
- Provide effective planning outcomes to ensure that transport requirements are clearly defined, and key stakeholders are aware of the project and preferably support the project.
- Prepare complex ministerial correspondence, project reports, presentations, briefing notes, submissions and other general correspondence.
- Contribute to the positive working environment of the division, including participating in ongoing business improvement processes and mentoring junior staff members.
- Actively participate in performance conversations to build and support a culture of performance improvement.

This position reports to the Planning Manager (Transport Planning Prioritisation and Integration).
