A unique opportunity exists to join the transplant team at John Hunter Hospital. The John Hunter Hospital is the principal referral centre and tertiary hospital for Newcastle, and northern New South Wales, Australia. The 796 bed hospital is the main teaching hospital of the University of Newcastle. The hospital contains the only trauma centre in New South Wales outside the Sydney Metropolitan Area, and has the busiest emergency department in the state John Hunter is the busiest trauma hospital in the state, and the second-busiest in the country; and the only regional hospital to house all the surgical subspecialties.

**What you'll be doing**

The Provisional Fellow is a doctor who is on an approved pathway to obtain specialist recognition. They will provide care to patients under the supervision and guidance of consultant staff whilst undertaking a comprehensive post graduate fellowship training program in renal Transplant Surgery and vascular access.
The primary purpose of this position is to contribute to high quality surgical intervention in Transplant surgery and Dialysis access surgery whilst also providing expert care and clinical advice to patients, carers, and other health care professionals. This position also provides the appointee with further training in laparoscopic donor nephrectomies and deceased donor organ procurement. There will be opportunity for the appointee to
The Provisional Fellow in Transplant Surgery will provide high quality clinical care, diagnostic and consultative specialty services in Renal Transplant Surgery and dialysis access at the level of Provisional Fellow and participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the Transplant Surgery Department at John Hunter Hospital and HNELHD as required. They will ensure high standards of professional performance and contribute to an academic environment which supports education, research and professional development and will require a degree of flexibility and ability to manage competing demands on time, including being available and on call to support and manage patients with transplant surgical pathology requiring emergency management within the HNELHD.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Demonstrated current Transplant Surgery clinical practice of a high standard, with ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based practice.
- Evidence of being a scholar, including a demonstrated commitment to actively contribute to research activities and the ability to supervise and train junior medical staff
- Evidence of being a skilled communicator, including both oral and written skills, communicating with patients, students, other health professionals and the public
- Evidence of being a collaborator, including the ability to network and operate within an interdisciplinary framework and to work with other stakeholders in a variety of settings
- Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of the Hunter New England Local Health District, including the provision of services to local community, effective use of resources, preparedness to participate in provision of health services at District level, if credentialed.
