**As our Biosecurity Field Team Supervisor, you will**: - Provide on-the-ground direction and support, lead by example, quality assure team members work, and provide an escalation point for team member questions e.g., support team members in managing difficult conversations with members of the public/landowners; and assure accurate and timely recording of field data using standard forms. Undertake field-based surveillance, and treatment activities as required to meet the National Fire Ant Eradication Program (the Program) goals. Supervise a field team by completing functions including but not limited to allocating team roles and delegating tasks, supporting staff well-being and positive group dynamics and facilitating staff induction and ongoing learning and development. Follow and model workplace, health and safety procedures/safe work practices at all times and support team members in doing the same. This includes safe handling of equipment and chemicals, taking prudent steps to self-protect by carrying sufficient operational equipment, protective clothing, footwear, food and water and working in difficult terrain, and various weather conditions. Promote effective public relations for Biosecurity Queensland by answering general questions from the public. This may require seeking consent to enter properties and providing information regarding Red imported fire ants (RIFA), such as how to report and treat RIFA. Organise and coordinate specific biosecurity surveys, surveillance and correlating GPS and other data, recording and reporting information as required. Make safe and competent use of computers, mobile phones and satellite navigation (GPS) systems and other navigational equipment, and other job-relevant equipment and substances.
**The position requires**: - Conduct field duties for most of each working day that involves: Working in various geographical locations, settings, and terrains (e.g. Parkland, bushland, gardens and paddocks containing grasses and pollens. residential, rural, flat to steep sloping and/or uneven ground and around public infrastructure); Walking considerable distances (e.g. continuous walking for up to 60 minutes and up to approximately 15 kilometres a day); Being exposed to the various outdoor temperature ranges and climatic conditions prevalent in south-east Queensland. Work with a range of chemical-based ant baits, when conducting treatment activities. This includes using a hand driven bait spreader. Be prepared to work with and handle chemicals (e.g. PTFE Fluoroplastic and DAAF 3). Rosters will be worked over a 9-day fortnight where rostered hours are a maximum of 9 hours per day. The spread of hours is between 6.00 am and 6.00 pm.
This may also include working Saturday and Sunday.
