Tech Schools are a Victorian Government key initiative in establishing Victoria as the Education State, where all Victorians can access high-quality education and training, regardless of their background, circumstances, or postcode. Tech Schools focus on preparing students for a changing world, strengthening employability skills, and linking the focus of secondary education to growing industries within the region.

In 2017, the Victorian Government committed to establishing 10 Tech Schools across the State. Melbourne Polytechnic hosts two Tech Schools that opened in 2018, the Banyule Nillumbik Tech School (BNTS), located at Greensborough Campus, and the Whittlesea Tech School (WTS), located at Epping Campus.

**About the role**:
This position supports the development and delivery of future-focused STEAM and Project-Based Learning at the Tech School, through the integration of technology.

The Technical Officer’s primary function is to provide technical support, service and maintain equipment, manage stock control and inventory and provide advice on the implementation of technologies within learning programs, including the development of learning resources. Particular emphasis for this role is on providing expertise that supports students to create prototypes in areas such as soft material prototyping, electronics assembly, computer-aided design (CAD) for 3D printing, Digital design, CNC milling and laser cutting/engraving, VR/AR, to name a few.

The incumbent will be a key and active participant of the Tech School team, ensuring educational excellence, student and stakeholder satisfaction, and will contribute to a motivated, effective, respectful team and working environment.

**Duties**:
**Operational and Resource Management**
- Set up / pack down technologies for programs and events for the Tech School
- Lead compliance and operational procedures of the Tech School’s facilities and equipment

**Support for Educational Excellence**
- Provide technical support in the promotion of regular activities, events and exhibitions, internal and external to the Tech School
- Support professional learning for partner school and tech school staff supporting in their preparations and delivery of STEAM-based programs
- Support the scoping and implementation of innovative technologies and STEM-based resources to be used by partner schoolsGeneral Administrative Support
Undertake administrative and related duties as required to support efficient operation of the Tech School

**Compliance**
- Actively contribute to the development and maintenance of the Tech Schools Work, Health and Safety Plan with particular attention to hazard registry; regular inspection; plant, equipment and chemical registers;
- Ensure compliance with legislation, regulatory standards, government requirements and the School’s quality processes and policies

**Learner Success**
- Work with students, teachers and Tech School Staff to guide and assist in the implementation of technology for learning and innovation
- Identify potential situations that may put learners at risk ensuring consistency with WHS, the Child Safe Standards and respond in accordance with Institute’s policies and agreed practices.

**Skills and experience required**:
**Essential**
- Relevant qualifications at a minimum of Certificate level in Design Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Computer Technology or related discipline, or equivalent experience in a similar role

**Desirable**
- Diploma, Bachelor or post-graduate level qualifications in a STEM field
- Current First Aid Qualifications
