Temporary part time for up to 6 months, with the view to ongoing employment
- Salary for a Part Time position will be on a pro rata basis of the full-time salary ($75,033 - $85,343 per annum depending on skills and experience), plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading, and access to salary packaging (Salary Sacrifice Super and/or Novated Car Lease) and includes all incidence allowance of $7,058 payable in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
- Based in the Electorate Office in Woy Woy, with occasional work at NSW Parliament.

Applications are invited for the position of Electorate Officer in the Office of Liesl Tesch MP.

Electorate Officers are the initial point of contact for all constituent and community enquiries regarding state and government services and responsibilities. The role involves customer service, and administrative functions to support the MP in their role and ensure the efficient operation of the office.

An Electorate Officer requires comprehensive knowledge of issues affecting our local community, the ability to lead community campaigns in line with priorities of the office and to ensure that constituents are informed and engaged with the work of the MP.

This includes drafting correspondence, liaising with Government departments and other organisations, maintaining a database of constituent correspondence, planning and designing online and printed communication materials and regularly updating and planning social media platforms, organising the Member's diary and attending mobile offices and meetings.

This position would suit a highly motivated person, with excellent problem-solving skills, who wants to help people with a broad range of state issues including health, education, transport, state roads, housing, mental health and community services, as well as contribute to the development of policy and legislation.

**Key accountabilities and skills** (shall include some or all of the following):
**Interpersonal**:

- Good listening, judgement and empathy to provide the initial point of contact and information for constituent enquiries, both written and verbal;
- Liaise with community stakeholder groups, constituents, government and non-government agencies; and
- Ability to work independently and autonomously.
- Work collaboratively in a small, dynamic team, guiding and/or supporting other paid and/or volunteer staff as appropriate.
- Demonstrate capacity to exercise sound judgement, ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues, while performing at a high standard under limited supervision and within an agile team environment.

**Oral and written communication**:

- Effectively use print and contemporary media including social media to communicate ideas. Must have working knowledge of Facebook and Instagram.
- Experience writing and preparing media releases and statements.
- Communicate information clearly and concisely by making representations on behalf of constituents to various government agencies and non-government organisations, maintaining confidentiality.
- Gather, comprehend, analyse, and communicate complex information.
- Prepare briefing correspondence, notes, submissions, op-eds, speeches, newsletters, media releases, social media posts and policy options.

**Political awareness**:

- Understand issues facing community, the Australian political system, and the structure and operation of political parties;
- An interest in, and understanding of, the Australian political context and Australian parliamentary procedures and processes particularly in NSW.
- Be alert to issues impacting on community groups, organisations, and monitoring traditional and social media.

**Planning and organisational**:

- Assist in the day-to-day running of the electorate office, including providing secretarial support to the MP, filing, calendar management, documenting and reconciling petty cash
- Event management

**Selection Criteria**:

- Excellent writing skills including the ability to prepare correspondence, briefing notes, submissions, speeches, newsletters, traditional media releases & social media posts.
- Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to hear from and liaise with community members and groups, government and non-government organisations, and the media.
- Superior organisational skills to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Capacity to exercise sound judgement and ability to perform at a high standard under limited supervision and within a team environment.
- Excellent computer skills in database management, Microsoft office suite, Canva (or similar), web content management systems and social media skills.
- Willingness to work irregular hours (nights, early mornings and weekends) as required;
- Current driver’s licence is not essential but preferable;
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field or equivalent industry
