The primary purpose of the Technical Officer is to provide a high standard of technical support to the teaching and research programs of the school to ensure that the practical programs are delivered in an efficient manner and that expertise can be provided to assist research staff and students. The technical support is aligned with Biochemistry discipline and assists the Technical Services Coordinator in the area.

**Your key responsibilities will include**:

- Consulting with available sources to gather relevant technical information and seek the expertise and advice of other people as appropriate, to provide technical and research support to practical teaching and research programs of the School, specifically in the biochemistry and chemistry based disciplines to ensure classes run smoothly and that the laboratories and materials are cleaned afterwards
- Provision of technical expertise in the operation and maintenance of specialised instrumentation in the molecular and cell sciences and preparation of materials for classes
- Coordinate on a day-to-day basis, within the designated area of responsibility, materials and equipment requirements of staff and students for the running of practical teaching classes within the specified disciplines of expertise
- Trial new experiments and modify existing experiments to ensure the optimal smooth running of practicals within the designated area of responsibility
- Clarify expectations and respond promptly to resolve technical problems, issues and requirements to ensure client needs are met to agreed standards and timelines
- Generate new ideas and shares those ideas with others in the work area to improve process and practice to support service to the school
- Understand local processes, prepare standard documents, manage records, regularly track progress of work tasks and identify key issues
- Deliver effective and efficient outcomes and outputs against team and operational work plans

**To be successful, you’ll have**:

- Completion of a Degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or
- Completion of an Associate Diploma and at least two years subsequent relevant work experience; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
- Good knowledge of OH&S (Occupational Health and Safety) (Occupational Health and Safety) principles and an understanding of the requirements for safety when working with biological and chemical hazards
