Nepean Hospital is an important referral and teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. It serves the local areas of Penrith, Hawkesbury and the Blue Mountains (comprising a population of 300,000 and growing) and accepts patients from as far as Lithgow and Bathurst flown in by helicopter retrieval services. Nepean Hospital is the Regional Trauma Centre for these areas. ICU positions are accredited with the CICM (ANZ), RACP, ANZCA, and ACEM for Intensive Care Training. Fellows are encouraged to prepare for appropriate exams.

The role of the Intensive Care Unit is to provide Intensive Care services to the community as well as providing emergency response to all wards within the hospital.

The primary purpose of the position is to provide high quality intensive care medicine, on the ICU fellow roster, to patients in a complex clinical environment. The role aims to participate in the training program or transitional year of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) pathway, with the goal of obtaining fellowship of CICM. The ARTIC Fellow needs to be confident in emergency situations, including ability to independently perform procedures, including educating others.

Provisional Fellows work under the supervision of Specialist Intensive Care Physicians to manage patients requiring support in the ICU, those at risk of clinical deterioration requiring intensive care, plus pre
- and post-intensive care evaluation. The position is flexible and has graded responsibility to allow increasing clinical autonomy, and development of skills in research and administration, to build on those skills and attributes acquired in the early years of training and assist the movement of the trainee into specialist practice.

The Intensive Care Unit provides a Medical Emergency Team (MET) and 'outreach' service to the hospital, known as the ARTIC service (Admission Review Team). The ARTIC fellow is expected to help facilitate the running of this team along with senior nursing staff, including quality assurance and improvement projects. They are expected to arrange regular multidisciplinary training (including simulation / Immersive team training sessions), education initiatives, rostering and mentoring members of the team.

**What you'll be doing**
- Help facilitate the running of the ARTIC service (Admission Review Team), which include the MET and outreach service.
- Lead regular multidisciplinary training (including simulation / Immersive team training sessions).
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver education, quality assurance and improvement initiatives and act as a role model.
- Take a leadership role within a busy ICU, overseeing change management.
- Teach other clinical staff, to ensure an optimal learning environment, promote growth and development of others, and to develop skills in teaching.
- Participate in a 24/7 roster and may be rostered to day, evening or night shifts across a seven day roster.

**Where you'll be working**

- Workforce includes: 8 Staff Specialists, 1 Clinical Superintendent, 1 Echo Fellow, 1 Professorial fellow (involved in research / education / other), 1 ARTIC fellow (helps manage and educate outreach / MET service), 1 Provisional Fellows (typically undertaking fellowship exams), 11 Trainees, 4 Senior Medical Resident Officers and 4 Residents.

**Essential requirements**
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Clinical experience required to undertake the key accountabilities for this role including experience in critical care disciplines of anaesthesia, emergency medicine, and/or intensive care.
- Interest in simulation, education and research.

- Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
