About the role

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Cafe Barista, reporting to the Cafe Manager. The Cafe Barista is instrumental in ensuring high quality, consistent barista coffees (and other drinks), are served to customers in a timely and friendly manner. The Café Barista will work closely with the Café Manager and a small team of volunteers, to create a welcoming, good quality café experience, that will support the overall mission of The Salvation Army to see lives transformed with the love of Jesus.

You will successfully
- Ensure customers feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service always
- Handle customer complaints in a timely manner
- Prepare foods, such as sandwiches or baked goods as the Café Manager requires
- Grinding and blending coffee beans, brewing coffee and tea, and serving items to customers - ensuring consistency in high quality offerings to customers
- Understand brewing methods, beverage blends, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food quality
- Implement and complete recruitment and selection processes in a timely manner
- Train and develop volunteers in all aspects of the café including cleaning, food preparation, beverage preparation, money transactions (register) and customer service
- Ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained (milk, coffee beans, etc)
- Clean and restock work and dining areas, emptying trash, and sanitising equipment and utensils
- Ensure all equipment is kept clean and maintained in excellent working condition
- Support the volunteer team by helping to maintain a safe working environment

This is a max term (12 months from start date) part time (19 hours per week) position located in Morley, WA. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the

Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020, Level 3.

You will have
- Experience as a Barista, with food handling
- Experience of Safe Food Handling
- Knowledge of legislated requirements under the Food and Beverages Act
- A National Criminal History Check is required
- Ongoing training as requested by the Corps Officer and/or Café Manager
