About the Role
As the Teacher Aide supporting our Indigenous students, your responsibilities will include:

- Communicating effectively and displaying high level of interpersonal skills to function as an effective team member.
- Development of activities which promote productive partnerships between individual and group members of the community, under the relevant teacher or other staff member responsible for the indigenous portfolio.
- Maintaining anecdotal records on students for use in reviewing student's development.
- Assisting in the supervision of education activities, under the direction of a teacher (for example, yarning circle).

**Other duties may include**:

- Contribute to the coordination and organisation of multicultural and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander celebrations for the school community - example: Reconciliation Week, NAIDOC Week, Harmony Week, QATSIF celebrations.
- Support the coordination of QATSIF graduation morning tea for students and families.
- Support activities with the objective of improving learning outcomes of ATSI students, including ATSIAP Challenge.
- In collaboration with the Leadership Team, engage with the Brisbane State High School community, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community, parents, and First Nations Agencies.
- Attendance and contribution at RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) meetings.

Suitability Assessment CriteriaThis role requires someone who can:

- Demonstrate knowledge, skills and ability to work as a teacher aide in a responsible and collaborative way.
- Function effectively and cohesively with a diverse range of people in a team environment.
- Demonstrate strong use of Microsoft Suite products.

**Additional Criteria**:

- Excellent rapport and relationship management skills.
- Highly motivated and uses initiative.
- Experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
- Experience using OneSchool and ID Attend (desirable but not essential).
- Strong attention to detail.

**Mandatory Requirements for and Identified Role**:
It is a genuine occupational requirement for Identified roles that the position be filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act.
Verification of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Island heritage
For administrative purposes, in relation to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is either:

- of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent;
- accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.

By definition a person who is not an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cannot be employed (on any basis) to perform the duties of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role.
