**The Organisation**
Motivated by the parable of the Good Samaritan, Opportunity International Australia seeks to end poverty in developing countries - one family and one community at a time.
By providing small loans to families in need, Opportunity helps them grow their own businesses and generate sustainable incomes so they can lift themselves out of poverty with dignity.
To break the cycle of poverty for good, Opportunity also increases families’ access to healthcare and quality education, while strengthening communities to reduce the risk of gender-based violence - creating a new future for generations to come.
**The Role**
You will lead the integration of gender-responsive and intersectional approaches (Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion) as part of technical support to our partners and programs - all aimed at lifting women and other groups experiencing marginalisation out of poverty.
Specifically, you will:
- Lead the design and embedment of clear GEDSI strategies with our Microfinance, Health and Women’s Safety partners - in alignment with a localisation approach.
- Work with in-country staff and consulting partners to support the integration of best-practice GEDSI approaches across the lifecycle of Opportunity’s projects / programs.
- Lead robust gender equality and disability inclusion assessments with partners, ensuring findings are integrated in outcomes, indicators and activities - aimed at improving GEDSI practices.
- Develop tools and resources to strengthen GEDSI implementation across all of Opportunity’s programs including microfinance.
- Plan and facilitate GEDSI training with implementing partners and provide ongoing mentoring and capacity-building including establishing an active community of practice.
- Lead the design and implementation of a measurement framework to strengthen GEDSI monitoring and evaluation (M&E). Identify key areas for impact measurement and reporting.
- Work with in-country staff and consulting partners to provide GEDSI technical guidance to implementing partners, ensuring best-practice GEDSI approaches that align with DFAT accreditation and other policy requirements, including a localisation approach.
- Lead GEDSI research with implementing partners, working with reputable research consultants and institutions.
- Generate and share credible evidence around GEDSI and economic empowerment of women and their families.
- Support the People & Culture team to implement effective GEDSI practices within Opportunity, including providing technical advice on the GEDSI and safeguarding committee and training / support to Opportunity internal stakeholders as required.
- Provide ongoing technical advisory and project management support to Women’s Safety program partners on best-practice GEDSI and intersectional approaches to addressing Gender Based Violence.
- Represent Opportunity on relevant GEDSI networking groups, e.g. the Australian Disability and Development Consortium (ADDC) and ACFID Gender Equity Community of Practice.
- Lead and support the development of proposals and concept notes targeting GEDSI specific funding or technical assistance from institutional funders (e.g. DFAT) and impact investors.
**Skills Required**:
You will be an experienced GEDSI specialist with a strong international development background and skills in capacity-building across diverse cultural settings. Your confident, proactive, respectful, and professional approach, coupled with the ability to work in alignment with the values of the Christian ethos that motivates Opportunity, will be key to your success.
