Your new job
The Family Peer Worker will work within a team of Family Peer Workers who offer empathetic listening, provide support and information, connection and peer support drawing on their own lived experience of supporting their own children, young adult family members and significant others with mental ill health.
Reporting to the Family Peer Work Lead - Primary Care Services, you will:

- Promote and advocate for the voice of FAF within the local multi-disciplinary team.
- Offer informal drop-in and appointment-based services for FAF of young people who attend headspace to provide support, information, psychoeducation, empathic listening and connection.
- Offer empathic listening and provide support to FAF of young people attending headspace. This will be a person-centred, strengths-based approach and may be face-to-face, by telephone or using video conferencing platforms.
- Provide assistance with linking FAF into other family support, mental health, AOD and other relevant services in their area.
- Our headspace sites operate after 5pm multiple times a week, availability to work across rotating shifts required._

What you’ll need
You are passionate, energetic and determined to make a difference to health and wellbeing outcomes for young people. The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

- A personal experience of supporting a child and/or young adult family member who is/was experiencing mental ill health or alcohol and other drugs.
- Capacity to share own lived experience in a meaningful, appropriate and considered way.
- Capacity and willingness to conduct groups with FAF.
- High level interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of people, families and stakeholders.
- Cert IV in Peer Work, and/ or Foundations of Peer Work and/or Core Intentional Peer Support training would be desirable.
