Mater Research is searching for a **Research Assistant** to join our Glycation and Diabetes Complications team at our South Brisbane campus. Reporting to Prof Josephine Forbes, this role will be offered on a casual basis (0.2 FTE weekdays only) for a 6-12 month period.

**Salary: Mater Research Level 5 $63,631 - $67,782 p.a. + super + salary sacrificing**

**What you’ll be doing**

In this important role you will be expected to show excellence and dedication to develop research expertise through the pursuit of defined projects relevant to type 1 diabetes, sugar modifications, mitochondrial metabolism and the development of diabetes and its complications. Key responsibilities will include:

- Contributing to the design and implementation research projects
- Providing research co-ordination including monitoring of project timelines
- Conducting literature reviews
- Presenting updates, overviews and findings
- Undertaking other research duties as required and consistent with the level of appointment

**About you**

You will have a genuine motivation and dedication to work in biomedical research and to learn specifically about diabetes. Additionally, you will possess the following:

- Relevant scientific qualifications (eg. BSc, BMedSci)
- Flow cytometry including analysis and other immunological methodologies and confocal microscopy and imaging skills highly desirable
- An understanding of diabetes, gene silencing techniques in cells and advanced microscopy skills are highly desirable
- Molecular biology experience
- Experience working on clinical projects including analyses of tissues and data.
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with attention paid to accuracy and detail
- Ability to operate independently exercising initiative and judgement as appropriate
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
- Possess analytical and problem-solving skills
- Advanced computer skills in particular programs such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Access
- Ability to acquire the knowledge of the required related to the research specialty.
