**About the Program**

The Women Children and Family Health Service aims to support safe nurturing environments for pregnant women, infants and children, increase uptake and utilisation of services with an emphasis on early intervention and prevention, provide streamlined coordinated care and positive experiences for clients to encourage continued engagement with services.

**About the Role**

Working under general direction of the Team Manager, Maternal and Child Health, the primary role of the Aboriginal Health Worker (Child Health and Development) is and not limited to:

- Provide information to support parents/caregivers awareness and understanding of their child’s development, recognising strengths in their parenting, and provide knowledge and skills in how they can actively support their child’s development
- Provide information and education to parents/caregivers about the importance of monitoring their child’s development and child development check schedules
- Engage parents/caregivers in developmental screening, ensuring parent/caregiver informed consent and active participation
- Discuss outcomes of developmental screening with parents/caregivers and provide information and activities to support their child’s development
- Identify children who may need additional support and determine if there is a need for intervention or support services
- Collaborate with parents/caregivers and team members to identify potential pathways for care where a need for additional support is identified including any identified health concern
- Support engagement of parents/caregivers in opportunities to access further information, resources and share experiences through community support networks and other relevant services
- Ensure appropriate client documentation and fulfill all administrative functions required to ensure service access and follow up as required
- Participate in service training, continuous quality improvement and evaluation activities

**Remuneration**

This position is under the Nunkuwarrin Yunti Enterprise Agreement classification of **Health Service** Level **3 **(Salary sacrifice and paid Christmas and New Year break)

**Desired Skills and Experience**:
All positions within Nunkuwarrin Yunti of SA Inc will be required to undergo a six (6) months probationary period.

**ESSENTIAL - includes qualifications, skills, experience and knowledge.**
- Vocational and/or tertiary qualification in health, health promotion, counselling, community services or similar to at least equivalent to Cert IV Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Community Care); **and/or**:

- Minimum of two (2) years vocational experience attained through previous appointments, services and/or study at an equivalent level and expertise to undertake the range of activities required
- Sound knowledge of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait islander families and an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
- Ability to liaise, network and negotiate with a range of human service organisations and government agencies
- Ability to deal with people with high and complex needs and the ability to deal with conflict constructively
- Demonstrated experience in managing a diverse range of tasks and competing priorities, working with mínimal supervision and working as a member of a team
- Build working knowledge of statutory requirements and quality assurance processes associated with safe practice.
- Experience in the use of computer software, especially Patient Information Recall Systems (e.g., Communicare, Medical Director) and other databases
- Ability to use professional judgement to prioritise care and organise workloads
