Social Change is a new team in Guide Dogs NSW/ACT and our key aim is to advocate and educate on behalf of our community with a focus on upholding the rights of our community.
This is a 9 month Fixed Term - part time contract for 3 days a week within Sydney - we offer hybrid arrangements with 3 days in the office and 2 days WFH.
**Key Accountabilities**:
- Fostering a community of people with lived experience who are keen to collaborate on advocacy campaigns.
- Engaging closely with regional teams to ensure good geographical coverage of our community touchpoints.
- Ensuring the Client voice is embedded in everything we do within Social Change.
- Develop a community building and engagement strategy across all GDN community stakeholder groups: Clients and their families, staff, volunteers, donors, and the broader low vision and blindness community.
- Committed to advocate grassroots movement principles and to work closely with people with low vision or blindness.
- Develop and deliver a program of events that commence grass-roots community building.
- Identify mobilisation leads and case studies in each geographical area.
**Essential Experience**:
- At least 5 years’ experience in community engagement or other relevant areas.
- Lived experience in low vision or blindness highly preferred.
- Experience of campaigns, especially engaging and mobilising people to support advocacy and social change.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks.
- High level of computer literacy including; intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills, and experience using databases.
- Able to manage the physical demands and inherent requirements of the job and complete the tasks and duties as stated.
- Confident engaging with media and presenting to an audience.
