The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Victims of Crime Commissioner to provide a critical role within Victims of Crime.

The purpose of the Victims of Crime Commissioner's role is to maintain independent oversight of Victoria's justice and victim support systems, promote understanding of the key issues impacting victims of crime in the justice system and provide advice to the Attorney-General, Minister for Victim Support, government and its agencies that will lead to better access, experiences and outcomes for victims of crime participating in the justice system.

**About the Role**

The Victorian Government seeks to appoint the Victims of Crime Commissioner established under the Victims of Crime Commissioner Act 2015. The position is responsible for maintaining independent oversight of Victoria's justice and victim support service systems through its regulatory, monitoring and reporting functions, and provides strategic advice to the Attorney-General, Minister for Victim Support and government departments and agencies regarding improvements to the justice system to meet the needs of victims of crime.

The Commissioner promotes understanding of the issues impacting victims of crime that will lead to better access, experiences and outcomes and can also investigate complaints to inform recommendations to government to improve support and services.

The Commissioner has the power to conduct inquiries into aspects of the system that negatively affect victims of crime and plays an instrumental role in advocating for change that will improve responses as victims navigate the system.

The role is supported by staff who are employed by the Secretary of the Department of Justice and Community Safety.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Government and other agencies and build relationships with senior executives to effect change.
- A comprehensive and authoritative knowledge and understanding of the key issues for victims of crime, victim services and the criminal justice system.
- Demonstrated capability to lead and manage in a complex strategic and operational environment with multiple internal and external stakeholders and nuanced governance settings.
- A record of achievement in leading in a complex justice or human services system by way of effective strategy, policy development, program planning and evaluation, and demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high level, authoritative advice on service delivery standards, strategy and performance.
- A comprehensive understanding of the justice system, government priorities and reform strategies.

You will need to demonstrate a commitment to trauma informed and victim-centric outcomes to enable you to represent the role of the Commissioner effectively and authentically as a member of the Victims of Crime Consultative Committee.

A tertiary degree and over five years' experience in a senior role in a relevant discipline including law, social sciences or public administration is desirable.
