Statement of Duties

**Overview**

1. The Systems Administrator works alongside peers of differing specialisation in the Systems Team. The role supports matters relating to administration of Joint Collective Training Branch (JCTB) services, hardware assets and user accounts and other duties as directed. The Systems Administrator attends diverse meetings, engages peer technical teams constructively and participates in exercise work routines.

**Scope of Work**

1. The Systems Administrator:
a. Performs work on JCTB managed environments.

b. May be required to provide team leader functions, if this is required the appropriate support and/or training will be provided.

c. Complies with JCTB Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) Policy.

d. Proactively uses ITSM toolsets and monitors the tools routinely responds to Ticketing & Scheduling priorities, annotates tickets with meaningful commentary, reassigns with approval.

e. Consults the Defence knowledge repositories to assist with tasking through JCTB management tools.

f. Works closely with peers. Required skillsets including NetApp storage systems and HPe computational hardware with production services for which this position has ongoing responsibilities. The administrator also co-ordinates closely with both on troubleshooting activities.

g. Implements domain service protocols. Included are Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name System (DNS), Network Time Protocol (NTP), File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Internet Protocol (IP) standards.

i. Administers network user services. Included are Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, BitBucket, HipChat, Joint Training Information Management System (JTIMS) variants, Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Office products.

j. Operates network administration services. Included is Microsoft Active Directory (AD), Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM), VMware products, state monitoring tools and unspecified security software.

m. Administers distributed hardware systems. Assets include printers, workstations, laptops, servers, and storage systems. Routinely monitors equipment states using approved tools and upkeeps independently.

n. Optimises JCTB systems.

o. Implements Active Directory (AD) Group Policy. Applies, modifies and deletes user account privileges under direction for managing information risk and service access.

q. Uses Windows Command Line or PowerShell for creating and executing batch files or other system administrative tasks.

r. Generates Configuration Management Database (CMDB) inputs. Passes Systems Configuration Item (CI) state changes to the Configuration Manager and consults where definitions are ambiguous.

s. Applies ITIL Service Management principles and processes under direction. Included in Change Advisory Boards (CAB), in addition to other processes observed by the organisation.

t. Routinely contributes content and technical designs to Confluence knowledge repositories and provides input to JCTB policy, process and procedures on request.

u. Participates in professional development. Identifies opportunities aligned with JCTB objectives, provides supporting artefacts on request and negotiates work release as required. Provides evidence of assessment where Commonwealth support has been provided.

v. Handles Classified Document Registers and classified information in accordance with standing ADF Instructions, including the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF) and Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM).

w. Is responsible for the protection of Commonwealth Intellectual Property (IP) and upholding Defence's international obligations for ITAR controlled software.

x. Is responsible for their conduct. This includes personal productivity, accurate time keeping and transparent leave acquittal. The administrator must also comply with workplace standards set out for Defence in Mandatory Annual Awareness Training (MAAT).

Criteria, Qualifications and Prerequisites

**Specific Criteria**

a. ITIL Service Framework certification.

b. 5+ years industry IT experience, relevant military experience or combination of the two. Alternatively, Tertiary Degree or Vocational qualifications in a closely related discipline.

c. Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) role-based vendor certification, or higher. Alternatively, CompTIA A+ industry certification, or higher.

d. Industry certifications in complementary technologies, including storage, Red Hat and VMWare are desirable.

e. An unrestricted ability to deploy to Australian Defence Force (ADF) military installations in support of constructive training events.
