**About National Trust Queensland & the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital**
Since its creation in 1989, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital has grown to be one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world, now treating over 14,000 animals every year. In addition, the hospital provides veterinary care to the Sanctuary animal collection and conducts world-leading research and conservation projects.
The Hospital is located within the grounds of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, one of 12 properties managed by National Trust of Australia Queensland (NTAQ). NTAQ is a membership-based community organisation and registered charity that works to **protect, conserve, and celebrate the Environmental, Built and Cultural heritage of our State**.
We are currently seeking a part time Research Assistant to work within our Wildlife Hospital where our Research team works predominantly with the local koala population while participating in a variety of research programs. The Vet Hospital team see in excess of 14,000 wildlife cases a year and we aim to treat, rehabilitate and release as many of those animals as we can as a free service to the community.
**About the Role**
This role will involve participation of all CWH research projects, ensuring that all projects are delivered on schedule. This role will require a good level of communication between researchers and the veterinary staff within the Vet Hospital. As the Research assistant, you will be required to undertake a significant amount of field work while also contributing to administration and laboratory work.
You will have previous experience with the capture and handling of Koala’s and have demonstrated a genuine interest in research and laboratory work. You must be comfortable undertaking media tasks, tours of the hospital/presenting to small groups. You will liaise and communicate in a friendly and effective manner with all key contacts including internal department staff, volunteers, external local community groups and associated veterinary contacts.
**About You**
To be successful in this role, you will need to have experience capturing and handling koalas. Other key skills and qualifications we are looking for include:
- Must be comfortable in meeting all necessary vaccination requirements for the role
- You will be an energised, diplomatic, highly capable, and personable individual with a genuine interest and passion for wildlife.
- Has high level of time management and organisational skills with a genuine ability to multitask and work independently.
- Can demonstrate a highly flexible, cooperative, and positive attitude.
