**About the Opportunity
**The role of the **Therapeutic Counsellor **is to assist develop and provide -therapeutic intervention services to

individuals and families who are affected by a range of presenting issues inclusive of clients adversely affected by

gambling behaviours.

The **Therapeutic Counsellor** sits within **VAHS Financial Wellbeing Team** to provide comprehensive counselling and

services aimed at building capacity and Community awareness of gambling harm and associated issues.

**Key Selection Criteria
**Qualifications & Experience**
- Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or other relevant counselling qualification or experience _i.e mental _
- health, AOD. _Or applicant completing studies towards tertiary qualifications.
- **Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.**

**Essential**
- An understanding of and commitment to the Aboriginal community.
- Understanding of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and the issues facing these organisations
- Genuine interest in developing services for individuals & families adversely affected by gambling behaviours.
- Understanding, experience and skills in mental health and social, and emotional well-being issues including

substance misuse
- Experience or interest in planning and facilitating evidence-based informed therapeutic individual and group

programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and listening skills
- Good computer skills and an understanding of data collection
- The demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-skilled team.
