Established in 1871, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is located in Sydney’s The Domain adjacent to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and near the central business district, the Art Gallery acknowledges the original custodians of this land - the Gadigal of the Eora Nation.

The Art Gallery attracts over 1.4 million visitors annually and runs Australia’s largest education program with over 90,000 student and teacher visits per year.

With the recent opening of our expanded art campus, the Art Gallery has a new state-of-the-art building located next to our existing and much-loved building. Providing us with close to double the exhibition space, the expanded Art Gallery enables us to share more art with more people and provide more family, learning and educational programming for all our audiences.

**About the role**

Working collaboratively with the Conservation team and Gallery staff. Assist with conservation programs in the area of frames conservation for the Gallery’s collections and exhibitions, including assessing and preparing artworks at acquisition, and for internal and external exhibitions, displays and loans, to ensure the integrity and quality of artworks is maintained.

**What technical / soft skills you require**

1. Tertiary qualifications in Materials Conservation or professional membership of AICCM; thorough knowledge and understanding of the physical and chemical construction of artworks: chemistry, art history, artists' methods and materials and techniques used.

2. Demonstrated knowledge of both domestic and international conservation principles, ethics and requirements as identified in the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Materials Code of Ethics and its international counterparts.

**Targeted questions**

1. Provide an example of when you have worked in a collaborative environment on a project with multiple deadlines. Please provide details of how you managed your part of the workload to ensure deadlines were met (maximum of 400 words).

2. Provide an example of a conservation treatment, or group of treatments, you have completed and discuss the treatment issues you faced and how they were resolved. (maximum of 400 words).
