Lead the Festivals and Events team ensuring successful, safe events

The Head of Festivals and Events is responsible for ensuring all Moonee Valley City Council-run and Council supported festivals and events that run within the municipality are successful, safe and well-coordinated. This includes ensuring the Events team provides support and advice to other internal departments, as well as to external permit applicants. This position leads the Festivals and Events team to ensure that events and festivals align with the vision in Igniting Creativity, as well as other Events policies and frameworks.
Key responsibilities and duties will be to;
- Work with the Head of Visual and Public Art and the Head of Performing Arts and Asset Development to realise the ambitions expressed in _Igniting Creativity_.
- Support the Cross-functional Public Arts Team to enable knowledge sharing, team building and efficiencies across the Arts Unit
- Develop an effective Festivals and Events team.
- Provide advice and recommendations to the Manager Arts, Culture and Place in all aspects of festival and event production and management.
- Lead innovative and continuous improvement processes in the management and administration of Festivals and Events operations and programming.
- Participate in industry forums, advisory committees and represent Council’s Festivals and Events arts unit.
- Produce service planning, prepare reports, develop budgets, establish annual workplans and provide quarterly and annual reports.
- Provide leadership and support in the day-to-day operations of the Festivals and Events team.
- Supervise and support staff and ensure annual staff performance plans and reviews are undertaken and training.
- Ensure operational budgets are managed effectively, including monthly forecasting and regular reporting and oversee accurate processing of invoicing, banking and all procurement processes.
- Regularly review the business to ensure best value is provided, with a view to increasing income and minimising costs.
- Oversee and lead Council events.
- Oversee the provision of support to other units within Council where other teams are producing and running events.
- Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures in Council events and festivals.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive reporting systems, and regularly report on performance measures.
- Oversee and/or directly manage tenders and contracts associated with festivals and events.
- Liaise with and support marketing staff in the development of marketing and communications plans.
- Develop and maintain relationships with producers, event organisers, event sponsors and relevant networks.
- Oversee and contribute to the Council response to major external events in the municipality to manage the impact on residents.
- Work with the Economic Development team to support local business involvement in Council-run events and festivals, or in running their own activations
