**Purpose**

The Environmental Forestry & Field Officer provides management of CHW’s commercial forestry including all
silviculture and establishment operations, timber sales, fire suppression and prevention activities in compliance with
the ‘Code of Practice for Timber Production ” and all other relevant Acts, Legislation, Regulations and Codes’.

This position is also expected to support delivery of contracted work programs (additional to forestry specific
contracts) undertake catchment and land maintenance activities which may include fencing, native vegetation
management, weed control, roading and slashing. The role, where necessary, will provide field support to manage
reactive maintenance issue relevant to CHWs catchment land and water, parks, and recreational assets.

**Key Duties/Responsibilities**

The Environmental Forestry & Field Officer is expected to achieve outcomes in the following main areas:
**Management of all forestry - timber harvesting, marketing, silviculture, and planning**
- Ensure all forestry operations complies with CHW’s EMS and OH&S procedures and requirements.
- Ensure forestry complies with all relevant Acts, regulations and codes and industry standards for CHW or

better.
- Coordinate all harvesting and haulage operations.
- Ensure compliance with specific tender specifications through the recording, managing and prepare log sale

documentation and maintaining an up-to-date inventory of log volumes and products ready for sale.
- Manage and maintain records of all transactions and activities of timber sales and forestry operations

including coupe plans, volumes, plantings, and schedules.
- Manage and coordinate maintenance programs including silviculture thinning, pruning operations and

forestry roads for harvesting activities.
- Through consultation with the Environmental Assets and Field Services team, prepare operational plans for

site establishment including activities consisting of weed control, ground preparation and tree selection.

**Land and Catchment Management**
- Undertake catchment and land management activities as required.
- Develop forestry plans to ensure protection of water quality and the natural environment.

**Fire Management**
- Assist in the management of and participation in, the Forest Industry Brigade (FIB) to ensure it meets all

requirements under the CFA Act.
- Undertake fire prevention and suppression planning and activities as they relate to the role.
- Liaise with external stakeholders and agencies in matters relating to Regional Fire Management.

**Contractor Management and Administration**
- Administration of contracts including budget forecasting, invoicing, document management and reporting.
- Support the Team Leader - Environmental Assets and Field Services, with works as required.
- Monitor contractor costs and performance against forecasted budget.

**Field Maintenance Activities**
- Responding to catchment hazards and incidents.
