**The Role**
Within the Strategic Welfare function an APS 5 Work Health and Safety Officer is accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex work health and safety work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to have and maintain a well-developed understanding of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
An APS 5 Work Health and Safety Officer will be accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility. They will interpret and provide advice within the strategic welfare function area based on legislation, policy and procedures. They will undertake specialist research and analysis, conduct reviews, assessment, investigations and perform procedural, clerical and administrative support work to achieve results.
The APS 5 Work Health and Safety Officer will coordinate and contribute to the work of a team consistent to a work plan and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members. They may be a team coach or supervise a team and be accountable to set work priorities, allocate work, and manage workflows and performance. They are expected to be capable of reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others and identifying opportunities for on-the-job training within a work unit.
The APS 5 Work Health and Safety Officer will be required to engage and communicate with stakeholders to identify, respond and provide advice on issues to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

The APS 5 FSA role will coordinate and contribute to the work of a team consistent with Defence and Army Directive and Policy and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members of equal or lower classification.
An exciting opportunity exists for an APS 5 Formation Safety Advisor (FSA) within the 8th Brigade (Training). 8 Brigade is responsible for individual Army Reserve Training conducted by the University Regiments located in all states nationally.
You will be accountable under limited direction to undertake complex work in Health and Safety (including Youth Safety) activities and tasks, and to work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with Army and Defence Work Health and Safety objectives.
You will be required to conduct Tier 2 audits on University Regiments Work Health and Safety Systems and Procedures and manage Work Health and Safety incidents on the Defence Work Health and Safety reporting tool.
The APS 5 FSA position will be required to engage with relevant stakeholders to identify expectations and concerns and develop a clear understanding of the issues to achieve outcomes.
The FSA is the conduit for the daily management of Brigade Work Health and Safety requirements with the 2nd Division. They will also be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self and Unit Safety Co-ordinators’ improvement, professional development and fostering a learning culture within the work health and safety environment of the Brigade.
