Overview:
The Intake Clinician provides an efficient assessment, triage, information, counselling and referral service for people with alcohol and other drug related problems. They also provide information and counselling to their family and significant others.

The primary mode of service delivery for this role is via the phone.

The Intake Clinician is accountable for their own practice standards, activities delegated to others and the guidance and development of less experienced staff.

The Intake Clinician’s practice has been consolidated by experience and/or further study. They are expected to demonstrate ongoing practice development from competent to proficient practitioners.

The Intake Clinician role at this level continues to be predominantly clinical in nature, however, employees are assigned appropriate portfolios. The allocation of portfolio responsibilities should be negotiated with each employee and be consistent with the career development plan for the employee as determined by their performance review/development plan.

The Intake Clinician is responsible for:

- Providing proficient person-centred assessment, triaging, information and counselling services to clients seeking to access AOD services as well as providing information/counselling to their families and significant others
- Referring and/or booking clients into the most appropriate service to meet their needs
- Providing triaging into DASSA Withdrawal Services and participating in the bed allocation of individual clients through direct self-referral and referrals through DASSA Outpatient Clinics
- Providing health information and counselling to improve the health outcomes of individual clients
- Registered Nurse/Midwife or Allied Health Professional with at least 3 years, full time equivalent, post registration experience
- Experience in the leadership and direction of students and less experienced Staff.
- Demonstrated competence in counselling clients at risk and working with clients and communities experiencing alcohol and other drugs, diverse and complex problems including homelessness and family violence
- Demonstrated competence in a range of activities related to the key responsibilities of the community nursing role including education and training, consultation-liaison, health promotion, psychosocial assessment, case management, counselling, client advocacy, managing challenging behaviours and community development.

**Criminal History Screening Requirement**
- A National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving no contact with vulnerable groups is required for this position (general employment)
- A DHS ‘Working With Children Check’ (WWCC) is required for this position

SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.

**Special Conditions**

**For AHP2**:

- Appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
- Available to participate in evening and weekend on-call roster.

**For RN2C**:

- Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
- Available to participate in evening and weekend on-call roster.
