**The role**

In it’s 185th year, David Jones is currently in the midst of a dynamic organisational wide transformation as it transitions back into Australian ownership. With a focus on delivering our Vision2025+ strategy, the Head of Commercial Finance will be a crucial partner to our Merchandise GM leaders.

As a key component in the delivery of an ambitious Vision 2025 agenda, the Head of Commercial Finance will ensure a true business partnering approach is taken across their team and client groups. Reporting directly to the GM Commercial Finance & Strategy, you will ensure key commercial objectives are exceeded for each merchandise category. Taking a strategic ‘business first’ mindset, you will balance this with a long-term view ensuring the appropriate risk and governance frameworks are in place. You will lead a diverse team of partners and analysts and through personalised coaching techniques, inspire your people and create a continuous learning environment.

Based in Melbourne with a hybrid mix of time in the office and from home, this will suit a highly experienced, commercially astute and passionate finance leader who is looking for a platform to make their mark as part of a wider transformative agenda.

**Responsibilities will include but not be limited to;**
- Overall accountability for the delivery of all commercial finance operational activities
- Development of a high performing team through coaching, mentoring and supporting key talent
- Provide commercial advice, insights, analysis and recommendations on key commercial decisions
- Develop/manage commercial programs to ensure alignment across all key stakeholders
- Leverage relevant market intelligence and industry benchmarks against critical KPIs and use to inform ongoing strategic focus
- Partner executive leaders to influence and drive decisions with an objective ‘business first’ mindset
- Proven experience in a commercial finance/partnering role in a complex, multifaceted environment
- Experience with and passion for coaching/leading teams to realise their potential
- A passion to create a strategic vision that can inspire our people, customers and community
- Proven experience in cost optimisation initiatives that drive business performance
- Proven commercial acumen skills and an ability to influence decision making through data, facts and insights
- Excellent interpersonal skills to influence key internal/external stakeholders including executive teams
- Experience in the retail, consumer or FMCG space will be highly regarded
