The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a safety auditor to help prevent injuries and occupational health and safety (OHS) issues across its workforce.

About the Business Unit
People and Workplace Services's core functions span the breadth of workplace cultural and people matters, including human resource policy and strategy; organisational culture and change; recruitment, redeployment, and retention; performance and development; pay, benefits and workforce reporting; occupational health and safety management; and employment regulations.
The Safety Auditor sits within Safety, Wellbeing and Compliance, a branch of the People and Workplace Services in the Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department). The Safety, Wellbeing and Compliance branch provides process, systems and services to support the department to meet its responsibilities under Health and Safety Laws (Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, Dangerous Goods Act 1985 and Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013).

About the Role
The Safety Auditor is responsible for providing high quality process and systems audits, quality assurance, reporting and recommendations for business units to prevent health, safety and wellbeing incidents and issues from occurring in line with best practice standards. In this role, you will deliver a range of scheduled activities by systematically assessing and supporting workplace health, safety and wellbeing practices to identify and report potential hazards, or gaps in compliance to the departments OHSMS.

**As a safety auditor, you will**:

- Provide high-quality regulatory quality assurance, reporting and recommendations to prevent safety-related incidents and OHS issues from occurring.
- Deliver a range of scheduled activities, such as OHS Management System audits, workplace inspections, mentoring and risk profiling activities. You will assess and support workplace safety practices to identify and report potential hazards.
- Work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to inspect and test the reliability and effectiveness of preventive maintenance programs, preparedness and compliance to our OHS obligations.

The role will be based in the Melbourne CBD with the expectation of travel to metropolitan and country locations to provide training and undertake investigations. There will be opportunities to complete some reports working from home.

About You
- Demonstrated understanding of, expertise and practice of modern auditing methodologies and professional standards in a large and complex organisation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor communications to all stakeholders

Qualifications/Requirements
- Management systems or lead auditor qualifications (or progress towards either) or lead auditor experience is highly desirable.
- Formal occupational health and safety qualifications is highly desirable.

At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal. This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).
