**About the Role**

Become a member of the Burnside Hospital team and you will have the opportunity to work within our Medical Records Department and contribute to the hospital achieving our mission of providing safe, contemporary care for every patient, every time in current well-equipped facilities.

The Clinical Coder contributes to the efficient and effective operation of the Burnside War Memorial Hospital (BWMH) Medical Records (MR) environment by reading and analysing the medical record to ensure the correct identification of:

- All diagnoses and co-morbidities
- Procedures, both operative and non-operative
- Allied health interventions

**Essential skills & competencies**:

- Satisfactory completion of Introductory ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS; or Certificate IV in Clinical Classification or Equivalent qualification
- At least two years of recent practical experience participating in clinical coding in a hospital environment
- Sound working knowledge of clinical coding principals and standards
- Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and work without direct supervision
- Able to self-prioritise and work to deadlines
- Meet the desired coding targets
- Proficient in the use of information technology
- Able to form and maintain effective and harmonious working relations within a team environment

**Desirable**:

- Intermediate ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS;
- Experience in PiMS and Codexpert or similar coding software
