**Position Overview**
The role of the Sustainability Officer is to lead and deliver the development and implementation of a range of
environmental, waste management and sustainability strategies, programs, initiatives, services and advice that
respond to current and emerging needs, are compliant with organisational and legislative requirements and
aligned to community expectations. This position influences heightened support, awareness and commitment
to environmental performance improvement and behavioural change across the organisation and broader
community and organise education regarding the general principles and issues of sustainability.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Sustainability**:

- Develop, implement and manage council's sustainability projects and programs.- Provide support to Council-wide working groups to facilitate the implementation of environment policies and
- plans.- Prepare and implement a Carbon Management Plan to assist Council in understanding its current corporate

carbon emissions footprint and how, over time, this can be meaningfully reduced in a financially responsible
manner.
- Develop and review environmental and waste management policies and strategies in line with our legislative

requirements and best practice.
- Provide technical and strategic advice by partnering with other departments to ensure projects and services

deliver on sustainability agenda by addressing water consumption, energy use, climate change impacts and
adaptation measures.
- Research and gather data, identifying regional and local trends.***
- Prepare and present reports to Management and Council in relation to the operation of Council’s
- sustainability strategy, performance and related projects.- Build strong and effective partnerships with key stakeholders necessary to deliver sustainability initiatives.***
- Organise educational programs on sustainability initiatives/awareness for internal customers and external

community groups.**
**Waste Management**:

- In** **line with Council objectives, lead the development, delivery and review of Council’s waste and resource

recovery programs.****:

- Negotiate and supervise Council’s waste services contracts including provision of directions to contractors on

Council’s behalf, monitoring of contractor performance, general administration and enforcement duties
where needed and /or as directed.***
- Provide** **oversight of Council’s waste service contracts and provide oversight and an advisory service for the

day-to-day monitoring of contractor perfor
