**The Department**

**The Role**

The Data Services Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing the technical operations of the Bariatric Surgery Registry database, the web-based interfaced (BSR-i) and related data quality processes that are essential for ensuring completeness and quality of registry data. This role will also play a key role in extracting data for internal and external data access requests, data analysis and reporting. The Data Services Manager will work closely with the Executive Officer and will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Registry’s Technical Support Officer(s).

**Knowledge and Skills**
- Experience with relational databases and the generation of complete data queries using a database language such as SQL
- Experience in dealing with large, disparate datasets and using these data to undertake research activities in an academic environment.
- High level of computer skills, including experience with data analysis tools and visualisation tools such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Power BI.
- Demonstrated broad experience in leading, motivating and developing a team of professionals to deliver service excellence and continuous improvement
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to work independently to prioritise and delegate tasks to achieve agreed goals within timeframes and to required standards
- Strong attention to detail
- Active team player and excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate complex information effectively with individuals at all levels.
- Experience working as part of a leadership team, contributing to setting strategic direction, undertaking strategic planning, providing advice and implementing initiatives to deliver on objectives
- Experience in and understanding of the healthcare industry and the higher education sector is desirable

**Education/Qualifications**

The appointee will have:

- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline
- Proven database and IT management expertise
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
- Health related knowledge an advantage

**Desirable**
- Relevant experience within the health and/or research sectors
- Experience working with research data and databases
