**Position Summary**:
The Database Administrator is responsible for the management, maintenance, and optimization of our SQL and Oracle databases. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of database administration principles specific to the transport ticketing industry. The Database Administrator will collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors to ensure the security, availability, and performance of our ticketing databases.

**Responsibilities**:

- Database Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Monitor database performance metrics, identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, and optimize query execution. Conduct performance analysis, implement indexing strategies, and fine-tune database configurations to improve overall system performance and response times.
- Database Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement robust database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data availability and integrity. Regularly perform backups, test restoration procedures, and maintain disaster recovery plans specific to ticketing systems. Monitor backup jobs, verify data integrity, and resolve any backup-related issues or failures.
- Database Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce database security measures, including user access controls, roles, and permissions. Monitor database activity, identify and address security vulnerabilities, and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations specific to the transport ticketing industry.
- Database Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Identify and troubleshoot database issues, such as data corruption, performance degradation, and connectivity problems specific to ticketing systems. Conduct root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and document issue resolutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex database-related problems.
- Database Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of database schemas, configurations, procedures, and changes specific to ticketing systems. Generate reports on database performance, capacity utilization, and incident resolution. Document and communicate database changes and maintenance activities to stakeholders.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors to gather requirements, address technical issues, and provide database-related support specific to ticketing systems. Communicate effectively to provide regular updates, manage expectations, and escalate critical database-related matters as needed.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and standardization in database administration practices specific to ticketing systems. Propose and implement enhancements to streamline workflows, increase efficiency, and enhance database performance and reliability for ticketing operations.

**Role Requirements - Knowledge, Skills & Competencies**:

- Mandatory:

- All around knowledge of managing, maintaining and deploying the full Oracle database e.g. RAC, data guard etc.
- In depth Oracle Database Administration experience
- MS SQL and Windows Clustering
- MS SQL Reporting Services
- MS SQL Replication, Availability Group
- Experience of managing multiple Oracle databases on large systems
- Experience of managing clustered environments
- Strong self-sufficiency and initiative working on Database projects
- Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service.
- Experience of stored procedures.
- Practical experience in managing the internal and external database security
- Desired:

- Experience in working with other databases i.e. MySQL and Postgres

Experience and Educational Qualifications
- Minimum of 4-8 years of relevant industry experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification or / and Oracle or MS SQL Server Certification preferred
