**About the role**

Reporting to the Train Systems Lead the Train Systems Principal exists to manage the review, development, and implementation of technical solutions. The Train Systems Principal will implement technical solutions primarily focused on electrical systems within a train consist; ECP brakes, EOTMs, and the interface to Locomotives. The incumbent will be responsible for engineering support to the Operations and Maintenance Teams specialising in ECP equipment and operational asset performance.

The Train Systems Principal shall also function within the Reliability Engineering team, to support the Bulk and Coal, Maintenance Execution Teams. Operations and Planning, and Wagon Engineering groups with ECP fleet incidents and improvement opportunities. It is their responsibility to improve the reliability of Pacific National ECP wagon fleets, improve availability and reduce maintenance costs in line with reliability centred maintenance principals and condition monitoring techniques.

**Key accountabilities include**:

- Implementing technical solutions primarily focused on electrical systems within a train consist, such as ECP brakes, EOTMs, and locomotive interfaces.
- Providing engineering support to operations and maintenance teams, specialising in ECP equipment and operational asset performance.
- Collaborating with the engineering team to support maintenance execution teams, operations and planning, and wagon engineering groups in addressing ECP fleet incidents and improvement opportunities.
- Improving the reliability of ECP wagon fleets, enhancing availability, and reducing maintenance costs in line with reliability centred maintenance principles and condition monitoring techniques.
- Managing risk to enhance safety and performance of rolling stock, while reducing whole-of-life costs.
- Delivering reliability solutions in accordance with rail safety, OH&S policies, and industry standards.

**About you**

You will be an experienced Engineer with a tertiary qualification in Engineering or a trade certificate and at least 5 years demonstrated experience in an Engineering role working on ECP equipment on locomotives and wagons.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of initiative, innovation, and flexibility.
- Strong level of communications and interpersonal skill.
- Ability to be self-managed and work unsupervised, as well as working in a team environment providing support to operational staff.
- Sound knowledge of PC based software including the Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft
- Project Manager and maintenance information systems.
- Demonstrated evidence of success in communicating effectively with senior level stakeholders, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and industry associations and using own professional, technical expertise to constructively influence decisions and outcomes.
- Sound Knowledge of relevant rail standards.
- Knowledge of braking systems.
- Interpretation of locomotive fault log data.
- Knowledge of the American Association Railroads (AAR) & Railway of Australia Standards (ROA).
- Knowledge of the Rail Industry Safety & Standards Board (RISSB)
- Knowledge of Electrical testing, fault-finding, instrumentation use
- Electrical trade or engineering qualification
- Current Drivers Licence
