**Key duties and responsibilities of the DPR Facilitator**:
Assess briefing materials to develop trauma-informed responses that are culturally sensitive and reflect all components of an effective apology;
Assess and provide briefings to Legal Services and Redress Branch on the status of civil apologies once allocated post-settlement;
Collaboratively establish the method for each DPR or civil apology including:

- discussing sensitivities and preferences - for example, gender and cultural background of departmental representatives;
- liaising with/assisting support person/s if nominated; and
- holding a preparatory face-to-face meeting with relevant parties,

Identify a suitable departmental representative to deliver a DPR or civil apology post settlement of a claim, based on assessment of briefing materials and consultation with applicants, including managing any conflicts of interest;
Provide training, briefings and support for departmental representatives providing DPRs or civil apologies;
Maintain ongoing and regular contact with applicants throughout the process and facilitate the meeting, where requested, with the departmental representative;
Liaise with key departmental stakeholders regarding planning and implementation of the DPR or civil apology;
Organise opportunities for applicants to provide feedback on their experience engaging with the process - for example, in relation to quality, timeliness and meaningfulness;
Provide training, briefings and support for departmental representatives providing DPRs;
Actively contribute and participate as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe and meaningful DPRs and civil apologies;
Prepare and maintain quality case records in accordance with departmental case management and reporting requirements.
