About the Role
The Principal Research Fellow will be located within a School environment and work with research teams and partnerships in the School in the field of Electrical and Information Engineering. The Principal Research Fellow is required to undertake research and development activities in line with the University’s research strategy that emphasises relevant and applied research. The position will make independent and original contributions to research and innovation, which have a significant impact in the areas of their specialisation as well as be acknowledged at an international level as being influential in expanding the knowledge of their relevant discipline.
The Principal Research Fellow’s role is primarily to develop, engage in and lead high quality research and development projects that are aligned with the University’s research impact areas, in working with industry partners. The Principal Research Fellow will have an important research and innovation leadership role in embedding their research expertise into the life of the School and beyond and will be required to develop high-quality, productivity-driven research initiatives across RMIT and with local, national and global, internal and external partners. The position should particularly deliver excellent outcomes with a strong focus on research impact and translation as well as building and enhancing collaborative links and partnerships with industry and external bodies. The Principal Research Fellow will be expected to lead and achieve success in attracting research and industry funding and to produce high quality translational outcomes. The position may undertake limited teaching duties.
To be successful in this position, you’ll have as a minimum:- An international track record and recognition within their discipline or profession evidenced by extensive industry experiences, established industry links and engagement, development of new research initiatives and competitive research funding.- Extensive experience in research leadership with the ability to build and develop collaborative research teams, mentor academic staff to deliver high quality outcomes, attract and secure external research and industry funding to sustain research and innovation effort, manage funded research/industry projects including complex budgets and reporting requirements.-
- Demonstrated ability to lead scholarly/industry development and projects, and manage and supervise academic/industry staff and teams.- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to financial, governance and quality management systems within a University.- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills including the ability to consult with senior executives, external bodies, produce executive reports, negotiate agreed directions, outcomes and targets within a collaborative environment.- Proven ability as an effective member of a management team that develops and achieves shared goals and objectives.
**Qualifications**:
Mandatory: PhD or equivalent in relevant field of Artificial Intelligence and Information Engineering. Strong industry engagement experiences.
