The **First Nations Economic Wellbeing Branch** is working to improve outcomes for First Nations people in NSW by building a culturally informed evidence base. We are responsible for supporting Treasury and the wider sector’s capability to design, evaluate and conduct economic appraisal of First Nations initiatives. We also take a leading role in identifying opportunities for enabling First Nations economic prosperity through strategic projects and consultation.
While we are certain you will already have your own expertise to ensure success in this role you will have key knowledge and experience in:
- data reform, transformational change, and/or First Nations community-facing projects.
- building relationships to solve problems relating to the collection, access, management, and use of data in government or non-government contexts.
- the ability to communicative effectively with First Nations communities and organisations, and senior government stakeholders through a range of mediums, including the presentation of datasets and complex reform recommendations.

**Your day as an Associate Director**
The role will be responsible for driving a step-change in how government improves and shares data and information with First Nations communities and community-controlled organisations. The position plays a key linking role between communities, departments and a central delivery and reform team.
In the role you will be supporting the progress against Closing the Gap Priority Reform Four, which seeks to improve access to data and information at a regional level. This work will be jointly delivered across all NSW Government Departments and in partnership with the NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Peak Organisations (CAPO). You will collaborate with a central delivery and reform team sponsored by the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) and CAPO to develop a Data Sharing Service to commence in mid-2023.
You will also play a key role in supporting other relevant data and policy teams in Treasury to make improvements to the end-to-end data lifecycle (e.g., collection, management, analysis, and reporting) so data ecosystems can be transformed in line with Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles and Governance practices.
This role liaises extensively with other areas within Treasury, with NSW government agencies and equivalents in other jurisdictions across Australia, and with external stakeholders.
