To support laboratory, clinical and research activities for Macquarie University’s Neurodegenerative Disease (ND) Biobank.

THE ROLE- Salary Package: HEW 5 from $76,908 to $87,443 per annum, plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading- Appointment Type: One-year fixed term, full-time- Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)

The Biobank Technician will support laboratory, clinical and research activities for Macquarie University’s Neurodegenerative Disease (ND) Biobank. The biobank is the cornerstone of the research program at the Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Research Centre, one of Australia's largest MND programs, comprised of a multidisciplinary team of experts. The biobank samples and data are an invaluable resource for researchers to increase understanding of MND, and to identify treatments and preventative measures.

About You

Ideally you have experience in a biobank or similar clinical or laboratory-based facility. You will have advanced phlebotomy skills and experience processing and storing various human biospecimens. You are keen to join a friendly team that supports multidisciplinary neurodegenerative disease research.

- Essential_- Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant experience in medical sciences, biobanking, clinical research or significant relevant knowledge and experience- Demonstrated advanced phlebotomy experience- Demonstrated experience processing various biospecimens including blood in a PC2 laboratory- Applied knowledge of DNA/RNA purification, quantification, and quality assessment- Proven ability to follow strict protocols and to make improvements- Demonstrated excellent attention to detail to maintain meticulous biobank records- Strong team player with ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team of clinical, research and operational staff
- Desirable_- Experience with databases in a research, health, or related environment- Experience handling and manipulating data e.g., R, Microsoft Excel
