The Institute focuses its research within four key Programs:

The Translational Cancer Immunotherapy (TCI) group investigates the use of cellular immunotherapy approaches to treat cancers, especially blood cancers. We also work in the closely related field of bone marrow transplantation, which is the most established form of cancer immunotherapy. Our group performs pre-clinical and clinical research in immunology, bone marrow transplantation, and cell and gene therapy. We have a strong emphasis in advancing biological understanding and translating scientific discoveries into novel, clinically applicable tools and therapeutics. We integrate basic science with biotechnology and clinical know-how. We have successfully conducted phase I clinical trials using gene-modified T cells in bone marrow transplant patients and are now conducting clinical trials using CAR T cells in collaboration with the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. We interact closely with clinicians, industry partners, internal and external academic partners, and Q-Gen Cellular Therapeutics, which is the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility of QIMR Berghofer.

**About the role**:
This is an exciting, newly created post-doctoral opportunity to lead research projects on the development of novel cancer immunotherapeutics, including Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cells. This position involves translating basic immunology and gene technology know-how into clinically applicable therapies.

The key responsibilities are:

- Perform laboratory research as an independent, self-motivated scientist, with minimum requirement for day-to-day supervision. This involves the use of cell and gene technology, in vitro and in vivo immunological assays, and molecular and cell biology assays
- Assist in the supervision of higher degree students and research assistants.

**About you**:
This position will suit a motivated, self-driven post-doctoral fellow with a strong background in immunology and molecular biology, who is interested in translational research.
- A PhD in immunology, cancer immunotherapy, or cell and gene technology is essential.
- A good knowledge of techniques and procedures in immunology research and molecular biology are essential.
- Bioinformatics skills are highly desirable.
- Experience in gene-editing and gene vector technology, fluorescence imaging and relevant animal models are desirable.
- Scientific rigour, inquisitiveness and willingness to learn are critical.
- The individual should also have a record of peer-reviewed publications and excellent technical and scientific writing skills.

**Remuneration**: Salary range is $ 88,849 to $ 95,329 p.a plus super and salary packaging. This will be a full-time position for 12 months with potential for renewal.
