Why this role matters

This position will build relationships with youth/children and families in the Hastings and surrounding communities while developing a unique program in conjunction with the Salvation Army School Chaplain in the area.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven Youth Worker to build relationships with youth/children and families in the Hastings and surrounding communities while developing a unique program in conjunction with the Salvation Army School Chaplain in the area.

You will successfully
- Student programs are developed in response to the schools and students needs and implemented in consultation with the school chaplain and other teams
- Providing students, their families with support and/or appropriate referrals in difficult situations such as during times of grief, or when students are facing personal or emotional challenges
- Provide an environment that promotes the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development and wellbeing of all students
- Supporting students and staff to create an environment of cooperation and mutual respect, and promoting an understanding of diversity within the range of cultures and relevant traditions
- Teachers are educated on identifying the needs of students, the school and wider community so as to implement appropriate strategies
- Manage and implementation of group events
- Providing pastoral care and guidance to students about values and ethical matters, referring students, or sourcing appropriate services to meet their needs, which may involve access to services in the community
- Discipleship courses/events are offered
- Divisional Camps /events advertised and attended
- Assist in the recruitment, assessment and training of volunteers

This is a permanent full time position based in Hastings. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award/General Retail Industry Award Level 2.

You will have
- A Certificate IV in Youth Work or a Certificate IV in Pastoral Care or a Certificate IV in Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care or a Diploma in Community Services or equivalent
- Experience to deliver chaplaincy in a school environment (preferable)
- Experience in providing support to children and young people and their families to address social and emotional needs
- Developing and implementing school wellbeing programs for students (preferable)
- A current VIC Drivers Licence
- Valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
- Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
