**Role**:
The assistant principal reports directly to the principal.

Assistant principals have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. In exercising the responsibility, assistant principals will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget. Assistant principals will contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making.

The management of significant school program or functional areas in schools involve assistant principals in the analysis of the needs of students and the translation of state educational policy and frameworks into appropriate education programs to meet the needs of all students.

Typically assistant principals will be responsible for the effective use of the teaching staff and program budget of a defined area of the school's operation and for the oversight and leadership of the educational programs provided utilising these resources.

**Responsibilities**:
Typically, assistant principals perform one or more of the following functions:

- supervision and coordination of the work of senior curriculum or level coordinators;
- allocation of budgets, positions of responsibility and other resources within the area of responsibility;
- supervision of the delivery of teaching programs;
- management of programs to improve the knowledge and experience of staff;
- responsibility for general discipline matters beyond the management of classroom teachers and year level coordinators;
- contribute to the overall management of the school;

**Assistant principal: Well-being and inclusion**

The Springside West Secondary College Well Being and Inclusion Assistant Principal will lead and be accountable for a range of programs across the college. They will manage complex cases at all year levels, organise and monitor well-being and inclusion programs, and manage the well being and support team. The Springside West Secondary College Inclusion Assistant principal will laisse with the leading teacher who has responsibility for the Program for students with disability. They will also work with Koori students, promote LGBTIQ programs and other work closely with identified vulnerable cohorts. The successful applicant will work closely with the other four members of the principal class team and will have significant administrative support at their disposal. Other duties include:

- Youth justice liaison.
- First point of contact with Student Support Services at the regional office.
- Respectful relationships liaison, implementation, and evaluation.
- Schoolwide Positive Behaviour program liaison, implementation, and evaluation.
- Student voice well-being focus liaison with student voice coordinator.
- Manage well-being processes across the college to ensure effective follow up and utilisation of resources.
- Management of school refusal cases and liaison with external agencies.
- Oversight of strategic plan/ annual implementation plan well-being focus in close consultation with the college principal.
- Liaison with families about complex cases and vulnerable cohorts.
- Oversight and liaison regarding out of home care placements.
- Management of college All You Can Be program to integrate key well-being and inclusion messages.
- All relevant documentation: Individual education plans, Absence learning plans, Alternative Improvement plans, Behaviour Support plans.
