**Position Information**:
The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

**About the Role**

Student Support Officers work within the school community to enhance student wellbeing and learning outcomes in partnership with the wellbeing team and the school counselling service. Student Support Officers provide individual and targeted wellbeing support and whole of school wellbeing initiatives and programs that are evidence-based. They have a pivotal role in working collaboratively with external agencies and creating referral pathways for students and families to child and family support agencies.

**Essential Requirements**
- A completed diploma or higher qualification in social work, youth work, welfare or related discipline.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
- Valid and current Working With Children Check (WWCC).

**Additional Information**
Yudi Gunyi School caters for students from 10 to 16 who need additional support with a range of behavioural and mental health needs. The support equips them and their referring school with skills and strategies for success in mainstream school. The school, in collaboration with Health & Allied Health, has developed a new model of care, creating a set of universal teaching skills, collegial support channels and clinical services to improve outcomes for children ages 4-17 and their families. The scope of services and support use an agreed common language to collaborate, is trauma-informed and grounded principles of neuroscience. At Yudi Gunyi School, a team including psychiatrists, senior psychologists, psychologists, pediatricians, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, social workers, art therapists, nurses and specialist teachers all work together to develop teaching practices and approaches to wellbeing that are innovative and integrative. This multidisciplinary team is called the Ngaramadhi Space. ‘Ngaramadhi’ means ‘active listening’ in Dharawal language, and the name was given to us due to ongoing collaboration with the AECG and the Metropolitan Lands Council.
