**Main purpose of job**:
The Department for Business and Trade is part of the UK Government team in Australia. We support UK businesses to export to Australia, foster industrial partnerships and encourage investment in the UK.
We are recruiting for a head of trade for offshore wind for the Asia-Pacific region. This is an exciting opportunity to shape a new market that is delivering economic growth, our shared net zero agenda, and energy security across Asia-Pacific.

The role holder will develop our strategy for this sector, and will help establish the UK as a top tier trusted supplier and innovative thought leader across Asia-Pacific.

The role holder will confidently work across multiple missions and Government departments to help set direction on offshore wind, and will support, train and mentor the UK Government teams across Asia-Pacific to deliver these trade objectives.

The role holder will help establish and support senior level relationships across Government, industry, trade bodies and the broader eco-system.

They will proactively support the development of a pipeline of trade and investment opportunities, and will support teams to collaborate with International Trade Advisors, HQ and trade bodies to on board and provide high quality advice to UK companies. They will identify and work to remove trade access barriers.
The role holder will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. They will be able to proactively build trusted and impactful relationships with multiple stakeholders across government and within industry. They will be a confident communicator capable of exercising judgement and discretion with commercial in confidence data.
They will have commercial acumen, and will be able to quickly understand which opportunities offer value to UK companies, and will be confident using data to quickly and effectively prioritise their work.
They will be an effective team member, with a strong sense of collaboration and ability to bring diverse groups together. They will also be able to operate autonomously and will have a strong degree of ownership of their sector.
The job holder will report to the Head of International Trade for Defence, Clean Energy and Infrastructure in Australia.

This role is being offered part-time, 0.8 FTE.

**Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?**:

- Develop strong, trust-based relationships with stakeholders in the region and in the UK.
- Develop the sector knowledge and skills of teams across Asia-Pacific delivering our offshore wind objectives.
- Lead the development and implementation of a detailed strategy to ensure that UK Government is maximising business opportunities across Asia-Pacific for the UK offshore wind industry.
- Work closely alongside teams to manage, develop and deliver a successful pipeline of regional offshore wind export opportunities for the UK, and provide added-value support that helps UK companies win business.
- Develop strategic relationships with key external stakeholders, including UK offshore wind developers, supply chain companies and industry associations, non-UK developers and contractors, and governments, authorities, regulators etc. across the region.
- Identify the most cost effective and high impact ways to promote the UK offshore wind industry in the region through promotional events, trade missions, marketing campaigns and social and mainstream media etc.
- Lead the design and delivery of high quality offshore wind elements for frequent ministerial and senior official visits to the region, developing activities to drive lead generation and deepen key relationships while meeting UK government policy objectives.
- Shape the market to enable UK companies to success. Identify and work to remove market access barriers.
- Support the Asia-Pacific Business and Trade board.
- Play an active role in delivering the wider objectives of the Department of Business and Trade and UK Government in Australia, and in Asia-Pacific.

Mentoring, leadership and support across the off shore wind teams in Asia-Pacific.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- A successful track record with significant experience in international trade and investment or business development, including a proven record of engaging customers, stakeholders and partners.
- Experience of convening teams, as well as strong team work and collaboration skills, including confidence in suggesting new ideas and challenging senior stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills and the ability to work collaboratively with business contacts and colleagues from different cultures.
- A proactive, can-do approach, combined with high standards for delivery and meeting deadlines;
- Ability to work independently at pace, and to prioritise, managing an often heavy workload.
- Good judgement and political awareness.
