Council has an exciting opportunity for a two suitably qualified people to form our newly created Tree Crew. The Tree Crew will play a key role in reactive and programmed maintenance of trees and vegetation located on Council managed land, in accordance with appropriate arboricultural and environmental principles and techniques.

Ideally suited to people transitioning out of the forestry industry, we are looking for motivated and skilled people that want to make a difference to the way Council manages its trees.

**About this opportunity**

Working closely with the Senior Arborist, you will:

- Respond to and implement works to complete internal and external reactive tree maintenance requests.
- Plan and implement annual tree planting, maintenance and monitoring programs.
- Ensure programmed and reactive tree and vegetation management works are completed to appropriate arboricultural standards.
- Ensure safe operation of plant and equipment and compliance with Council’s Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) policies and procedures, including Safe Work Procedures (SWP) and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
- Organise maintenance of assigned plant and equipment to ensure they are kept in good working order.
- Help the Tree Crew achieve its goals by sharing information, involving team members in decisions, and demonstrating commitment to the team.

**What you will bring**
- Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude that can contribute to a positive team culture.
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role.
- Certificate III in Horticulture (Arboriculture) or extensive relevant experience.
- Certification in basic chainsaw maintenance, pole sawing and trimming, cutting of fallen trees and safe operation of wood chippers.
- Various plant operation competencies such as backhoe, skid steer loader and a Medium Rigid Truck Licence.
- If required, be willing and able to work weekend and public holidays and to be a member of Council’s after hours call out service.
