**Role Description/Criteria**

**OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE**

The role of the Head of Library is to facilitate and support the learning and teaching needs of students and staff at the College. She/He will optimise student learning through the provision of outstanding access to educational resources, and library programs and services across the College. The Head of Library will lead their staff and students through innovative teaching programs that help build within students a knowledge of the inquiry research process, technology skills and a love of literature and reading.

At Padua College, the Head of Library and the library team work closely with Learning Leaders to ensure effective provision of educational resources for student learning. The Head of Library supports and assists the Learning and Teaching Team in the effective implementation of the College’s Educational Strategic Plan.

The Head of Library is a key member of the Learning and Teaching Team under the direction of the Vice Principal - Learning and Teaching and reports directly to the Vice Principal - Learning and Teaching.

**MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY**

The responsibilities of the Head of Library include but are not limited to:
i. developing and reviewing Library Policy which is consistent with the policies of the College;
ii. leading and managing staff within the Department at all Campuses, including the Study Centre;
iii. maintaining a supportive and innovative learning environment on each Campus;
iv. being aware of new technological developments in information retrieval;
v. developing and promoting enrichment literature programs, including Book Week activities;
vi. managing Department Resources;
vii. preparing and managing Department Budgets; and

viii. performing other day-to-day duties and implementing decision as requested by the Principal or the College Improvement Team.
