As a Virologist, you will be designing virology training material and coordinating the delivery of ACDP-IP virology activities to ensure they are consistent across the program in the Asia-Pacific region. Overseas work will involve regular travel (every 1-2 months) of 1-2 weeks duration, potentially up to 3 weeks, in countries primarily in the Asia-Pacific region. You’ll be maintaining competency within the diagnostic virology laboratory by performing classical virology and diagnostic laboratory capacity-building work such as virus isolation, antigen and reagent production, general sample processing and other associated laboratory housekeeping activities.

**Your duties will include**:

- Planning, coordinating and delivering diagnostic virology training in support of ACDP-IP laboratory capacity-building projects in the Asia-Pacific region.
- Contributing to the development of harmonised training material to support the delivery of structured training in diagnostic virology standards and protocols to the Asia-Pacific region.
- Liaising with project partners to determine their needs and ensure delivery of activities in alignment with agreed project objectives and outcomes.
- Developing and maintaining competency to work in BSL3, and possibly BSL4 laboratories, to perform serology testing under ISO 17025 accreditation for routine and emergency disease investigation.
- Performing relevant diagnostic duties to support ACDP to deliver this role as a part of Reference Laboratory activities, which may include characterisation of virus isolates and reagent production under the ACDP quality management system and ethical requirements.
- Willingness to travel and work in countries across the Asia-Pacific on a regular basis and enthusiasm to support biorisk management systems in low resource environments.

**To be considered you will need**:
Essential:

- Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent relevant experience in Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
- High level of demonstrated experience in conducting and coordinating laboratory-based viral diagnostic tests with ability to train others both at the ACDP and overseas laboratories.
- Previous laboratory virology experience in particular working with infectious agents.
- Demonstrated ability to support projects, including independently planning, implementing and completing the required project activities and objectives to clients’ expectations.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and cooperatively as a member of a larger project team and to form and maintain effective and respectful relationships with a range of colleagues and collaborators.
- High-level of interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills including the ability to document results and communicate effectively with colleagues and clients from various cultural backgrounds in order to meet project goals and timelines.
