**Please note**: Due to Machinery of Government changes under Section 30 of the Public Administration Act (PAA), effective 1 January 2023, your employment will be with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action. Corporate Services, including payroll, will be provided by the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions while a process for the formal transfer of staff in impacted areas is implemented.
The Chief Geoscience Information Officer is responsible for the development, direction, and implementation of the Geological Survey of Victoria (GSV) Geoscience Data Strategy. Overseeing the collection, quality assessment, management and delivery of Victoria's geoscientific data, the Chief Geoscience Information Officer will lead a team that supports and contributes to the ready access of the geoscientific evidence base of Victoria.
Reporting to the Director, Geological Survey of Victoria, the role engages with a wide range of stakeholders, including Earth Resources Regulations, the resources industry, the general public and other state government agencies involved in infrastructure planning, natural resource management and conservation planning.
A mandatory qualification in Data Science, Geoscience or another relevant field is required. You will have experience in managing teams of multi-disciplinary staff, advanced analytical capabilities, demonstrated advanced project management skills and high level technical expertise in data systems, metadata, and assessing information requirements.
A tertiary qualification in IT systems with significant corporate and IT experience in the resources sector, and experience with resources sector Geoscientific Information Systems, open source and 3D data and models would be highly regarded.
This is ongoing position. The work location for this position is 1 Spring Street, Melbourne, with hybrid work arrangements available.
