CSIRO National Security and Resilience is responsible for protecting CSIRO’s people, research and reputation against a range of threats, including foreign interference. We have an exciting opportunity for a Security Advisor to join our Security Assessments team.

As the Security Advisor, you will support the maturation of, and provide advice on, CSIRO’s defence export control program. You’ll conduct inquiries and undertake assessments relating to security issues, including sanctions and foreign interference risk.

You will work closely with the broader National Security and Resilience team to maintain and build upon existing processes to identify and support mitigation of security-related issues. You’ll collaborate with a range of stakeholders across the agency to foster trusted relationships in the delivery of all necessary work packages.

**Your duties will include**:

- Driving inquiries into security issues and producing targeted, accurate assessments including recommendations of appropriate mitigations as required.
- Supporting the management and coordination of compliance related activities necessary to assist CSIRO’s adherence to internal policy requirements and external legislative standards regarding defence export controls.
- Working with the team to receive and manage queries regarding defence export controls, sanctions and security-related due diligence and providing advice to individuals/groups/teams.
- Liaising with internal governance and audit stakeholders to assist internal audit and assessment activities.
- Providing regular updates and/or training across CSIRO to continue to uplift security awareness and compliance with relevant policy and procedures.
- Liaising with the relevant regulators or government agency to arrange outreach sessions and leverage other opportunities for training & education as well as valuable updates.
- Contributing to wider National Security & Resilience project initiatives across the organisation.
- Other duties as directed.

**Salary**:AU$105k - AU$114k pa (pro-rata for part-time) plus up to 15.4% superannuation

**To be considered you will need**:

- Previous relevant work experience with a focus on defence export controls compliance or conducting security-related assessments or audits.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, including negotiating key outcomes and providing persuasive advice in the face of divergent views while continuing to foster trust.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, communicate from the audience’s perspective, and prioritise the key message.
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment, proactively collaborating and consulting with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish objectives.
- The ability to identify complex issues, conduct detailed analysis and develop appropriate responses through critical thinking.
- Demonstrated ability to be a positive team player, promote inclusive and welcoming team culture and values, and value and encourage others’ skills and experience in a diverse team.

**Desirable**:

- Tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant work experience related to audit and assessments.
