**ABOUT THE ROLE**
- Part time position (22.5 hours per week)
- Flexible location base

The Social and Emotional Wellbeing Coordinator will become a member of the AFL’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Team and is responsible for delivering specific project outcomes linked to supporting First Nation Australian athletes in high-performance sporting environments.

The role is focused on providing coordinated support to key stakeholders in the industry, guidance to young First Nation Australian athletes participating in AFL Indigenous Academy programs and achieving key project-based outcomes as set by the AFL Mental Health and Wellbeing Team.

The position will provide an opportunity to work in a dynamic wellbeing team who strive for innovation in areas of Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Health, and evidence-based practice. The AFL has a sustained passion for growing young people on and off the football field, and this role will work closely alongside program staff to uphold that responsibility in holistically supporting players throughout their lifecycle in the game.

The AFL considers that identifying as an Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s 28 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).

**A DAY IN THE LIFE OF**

**_Key Accountabilities:_**
- Immersion in AFL Talent Pathway Diversity Programs to support and guide First Nation Australian youth athletes in the pursuit of sporting goals (travel likely to be required)
- Support a coordinated response to the First Nation Australian AFL community in collaboration with the Diversity Talent Manager
- Relationship management with key Diversity staff for a consistent approach to the development of First Nation Australian players (on and off field)
- Work to a project plan to contextualize Social and Emotional Wellbeing approaches specific to First Nations Australian communities
- Advocate for and uphold Child Safeguarding standards and responsibilities to ensuring children within our AFL Talent programs are safe at all times

**_Core Competencies & Requirements:_**
- Ability to engage First Nations Australian young people and build trust and rapport
- For the benefit of relationship management with our First Nations Australian athletes, the AFL consider it imperative for the successful applicant to identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills including the ability to effectively liaise with diverse stakeholder groups including players, coaches, parents, other relevant AFL staff and external stakeholders
- Flexibility in responding to the unique needs of First Nations Australian athletes
- Demonstrated ability to work to a project plan
- Demonstrated growth mindset and willingness to learnPrevious experience in working with First Nation Australians in particular adolescents and young adults, and topics related to Social and Emotional Wellbeing
- Understanding and experience with Safeguarding Children processes and practices
- Either have completed the following or have a willingness to complete the following:

- Mental Health First Aid Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Certificate
- ASSIST training
- Qualifications in social/ youth work or similar are strongly desired
