**The Position**:
Our client has an exciting opportunity available for a Specialist Physicians to join their medical team. Physician expertise is sought with interests in Cardiology, Respiratory & Nephrology medicine and Infectious Diseases in addition to using skills in Acute General Medicine to join their medical team.

The Specialist Physician will participate in the provision of high quality General Medicine outpatient and inpatient services. In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the teaching programme for undergraduate medical students via affiliate positions with Deakin University, junior medical staff and physician trainees (basic and advanced). An interest in quality improvement is also highly valued.

**The Hospital**:
This healthcare facility has a total of 212 beds with wards that include medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, critical care, emergency, inpatient psychiatry, GEM and rehabilitation.

This hospital is considered one of the most modern and technologically advanced health services in regional Australia. The catchment area is a population of 110,000 spread across 10,323 sq klm’s. With only three hours to drive to Melbourne and a direct train services four times a day this location has excellent facilities.

**Key Responsibilities, Activities and Duties**:
**Clinical**:

- Assume clinical responsibility for patients under direct care. Ward rounds will be conducted as needed, generally on a daily basis.
- Conduct public outpatient clinics.
- Review patients undergoing Dialysis.
- Provide on call and recall services in association with other Nephrologists/General Medicine Physicians as agreed in the employment contract.
- Supervise the clinical care provided by Registrars/Hospital Medical Officers involved in the care of nephrology and general medicine patients.
- Review existing practices and promote change either based on evidence or if other change is required.
- Participate in the South West Healthcare Medical Displan as relevant.
- Ensure that patients/families are given adequate information upon which to base treatment decisions and follow-up.
- Develop effective communication with and be receptive to patient, relative and peer groups.
- Support multi-disciplinary teamwork.
- Provide advice to and liaise with staff from other units as required.

**Quality and Clinical Review Activities**:

- Participate in the Unit quality activities program, including audit activities, review of deaths and analysis of relevant clinical and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Attend Unit meetings where necessary.
- Assist in developing and implementing clinical pathways where appropriate.
- Assist in developing protocols and guidelines where required.
- Assist in resolving patient and relative complaints.

**Academic/Teaching**:

- Comply with personal continuing educational activities as outlined by FRACP, and/or other relevant professional bodies.
- Support and assist in the training of medical students, junior medical staff and nursing staff involved in the management of medical patients.
- An opportunity exists to engage in relevant research activities in association with Deakin University Medical School academic staff.
