St Josephs College Coomera is a Brisbane Catholic Education master planned co-educational College that opened in January 2019. Our first Seniors will graduate in 2024. The College is located in Coomera on the Northern Gold Coast, 40 minutes south of the Brisbane CBD.

We are seeking a dedicated and committed Grounds person to join our School Services Team and College Community.

It is essential that the role holder:

- Deeply understands the core values and ethos of Catholic schooling across the range of College life and be faithful to the implication of that at all times when dealing with people.
- Is fully competent and experienced in the technical aspects of the role.
- Over time the employee will demonstrate understanding of the requirements of St Joseph’s College with a broad knowledge base.
- Is skilled in a range of roles and tasks required of them and in a variety of contexts.
- Able to work through complex problems and make decisions or choices that are appropriate.
- Can demonstrate competency within a routine, using set methods and following procedures.
- Some discretion and judgement are involved in selection of equipment, work organisation, services, actions and achieving outcomes within time constraints.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Can work with little to no guidance.
- Perform general maintenance and care of the school grounds including garden beds, lawns, turf, sporting ovals and greens.
- Assist with facilities and grounds maintenance for events and functions, such as assemblies, exams, masses, sporting events, carnivals, and information evenings.
- Maintain playing surfaces, including top dressing, fertilising, seeding, turfing, coring, and sprigging.
- Safely operate and maintain a range of specialist machinery and plant, observing workplace health and safety requirements associated with chemical storage, chemical spraying, fertilisers, use of equipment, ladder use and lifting.
- Assist in the equipment and plant maintenance repairs including carrying out tasks allotted under the grounds and gardens maintenance plan.
- Removal of rubbish and debris from garden and grounds areas including the emptying of bins and disposing of waste material to maintain a clean, tidy and a litter-free school building and grounds environment.
- Ensure work is carried out in a safe manner having due regard for the health and safety of yourself and the school community.
- Minimum Certificate II in Sports Turf Management / Horticulture or an equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of recent experience, training or professional accreditation.
- Current/valid Queensland Driver’s License.

**Experience**:

- Proficient with operating groundskeeping equipment such as tractors, ride on and push mowers, brush cutters etc.
- Ability to operate and maintain gardening and maintenance machinery and equipment in accordance with WH&S expectations and guidelines.
- Sound knowledge and experience in turf and horticulture.

Child safety and protection responsibilities:

- Maintain a child safe culture at all times.
- Act to prevent harm and act in the best interests of our children
- Report all cases of harm to the Principal or Child Protection Contacts.

Workplace health, safety, and wellbeing responsibilities:

- Comply with health and safety instructions.
- Take action to avoid, eliminate or minimise hazards.
- Not willfully place at risk the health and safety of self and/or others.
- Seek information and advice when necessary.
- Be familiar with hazard and accident reporting and emergency evacuation procedures.

To be eligible to be considered for this role you will:

- hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement;
- be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment; a
