**Selection Criteria**:
SC1: Demonstrated ability to carry out repairs and maintenance to buildings and grounds (formal trade qualifications and/or training would be an advantage).

**Role**:
To ensure the school grounds, buildings and equipment are well maintained, well presented, physically secure and compliant with all appropriate regulations and provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment for the school community.
Attendance may be required during term holidays.
Applicants with experience in a trade are preferred and will require a Working With Heights certificate.
**Responsibilities**:
The responsibilities of the Maintenance/Groundsperson may include, but not be limited to:
- Maintaining the buildings and grounds of the School.
- Undertaking regular routine inspections and identifying issues requiring maintenance.
- Undertaking routine repairs, cleaning and maintenance of the facilities.
- Undertaking small building projects and painting as required.
- Repairing /maintaining furniture as required
- General grounds development and maintenance, pruning, edges, weed control, planting, sweeping of paths, steps and building alcoves.
- Emptying yard and recycled paper bins.
- Assisting staff with setting up of rooms, gym etc. for school events.
- Supporting staff in relocating furniture and equipment.
- Identifying what works can be completed by the school, outsourcing other works to suitably qualified tradespeople within budget constraints.
- Liaising with and coordinating the necessary tradespeople to achieve set tasks within the required timeframes, ensuring mínimal disruption to the school.
- Managing projects from fruition to completion and the ability to provide the Principal Team with progress updates.
- Identifying Occupational Health and Safety risks and hazards.
- Other duties as directed by the Principal/Business Manager

Bendigo Violet Street Primary School is situated in central Bendigo. Our school community is diverse, including families that live in close proximity, as well as a number of families from neighbouring suburbs. Our school buildings reflect our pride and links with the past. We have a well-maintained main building housing the Administration and the Grade 3- 6 unit. The upper building has been designed to allow the Early Years team to provide flexible teaching and learning spaces, both indoors and out. Our school’s socio-economic band value is: Low to Medium.
The school has 12.5 equivalent full-time (EFT) teaching staff and 6 full-time equivalent (EFT) Education Support staff. Our teaching staff consists of 9 classroom teachers, 4 Specialist teachers (part time), 1 Literacy Intervention and Support teacher, 1 Learning Specialist and 1 Principal. In addition, we have 5 classroom-based education Support Staff of various time fractions, 1 After School Care Co-ordinator, 1 Garden Program Co-ordinator and 1 Business Manager.
A total of 210 students are enrolled at Bendigo Primary School in 2023 in Grades Foundation to Six. This year, our grade structures are
- 1 x Foundation class, 1 X F/1 class, 3 x 1/2 classes, 2 x 3/4 classes, 1 x 4/5 class and 1 x year 6 class. Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students and their culture are valued and recognised through the curriculum, school activities and working in partnership with our KESO. We support our students by implementing a tiered system of supports such as literacy and maths intervention, small speech support groups supported by a DET speech pathologist and members of our ES staff, one to one and small group support from ES staff and referrals to community services when appropriate.
