Dromana Primary School has served the communities of McCrae, Safety Beach and Dromana for over 160 years since its establishment in 1861. Starting in 2020, Dromana Primary School adopted the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) approach to drive whole school improvement. Our well-maintained grounds offer students diverse options for recess and lunch activities. For students who prefer to have a more structured environment during these times we offer a range of lunchtime clubs such as dancing, choir, origami club, bike club and more. Our school's basketball stadium is a valuable resource enjoyed by both our students and the wider community.
Our strong wellbeing program is supported by many external health and welfare providers, co-ordinated by our Assistant Principal and Wellbeing leader.
**Curriculum**
Dromana Primary School provides students with a high-quality education within an orderly, engaging, and appealing environment. Our curriculum aligns with the comprehensive seven-year sequential learning program contained in the Victorian Curriculum.
We plan and deliver lessons in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy where whole class instruction and discovery time is strengthened by facilitating focus groups during each session. The Science of Learning has been incorporated into our instructional model for Literacy where we see best practice implemented in to Reading and Writing. We use the Little Learners Love Literacy Programs to teach phonics across the school. In Numeracy we use the four-part lesson structure of Fluency, Launch, Discovery and Summary to support learning in this area. Students are also supported during student conferencing which enables them to learn alongside their teachers and peers. Students learn at their level by building on their prior knowledge to develop their skills, to challenge their thinking and to make new connections. We work closely with our students so they have a voice as they set their individual learning goals to support the direction of their learning.
