**Division Responsibilities**

The Medicare Benefits and Digital Health Division (MBDHD) plays a critical role in advising

Government and supporting access to medical services for all Australians by:

- Providing more affordable access to medical services for all Australians through a

contemporary Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) that is based on clinical evidence,

and which supports the provision of high-quality services.
- Administering a range of schemes that support access to medical services through

improving the affordability of medical indemnity insurance for health practitioners.
- Working collaboratively and constructively with diverse internal and external

stakeholders in a contested and challenging environment that respects the diversity

of clinical, private, and public health financing interests, to promote the interests of

patients.
- Support Connected Care with good policy advice for Government, with a focus on

Primary Care, Hospitals and Aged Care.
- Leads Health’s relationship with Services Australia and the Australian Digital Health

Agency to improve delivery of Health Care policy and programs objectives of

Government.

**Branch Responsibilities**

The Digital Health Branch supports nationally scalable health policies and projects that seek

to create a more connected health and wellbeing experience that places healthcare

consumers at the centre of their health and wellbeing journey. The Branch supports this

vision at both a system and individual level, for example:
**Health System**: policy advice, development, implementation, and analysis to ensure

Australia’s health system can harness the full potential of digital technology and health data

sharing to improve health outcomes and the safe and effective delivery of healthcare

services across Australia.

**Health care consumers**: policies and projects that improves health care consumers’ access

to their health information to support them throughout their health and wellbeing journey.

**Healthcare providers**: policies and projects that ensure healthcare providers have access to

a joined up, near-real-time view of their patient’s health information at the point of care.

This will support safer and more personalised patient care. It will speed up and simplify

systemic workflow impediments including reducing the information gathering and sharing

burden experienced by Australia’s health workforce.

**Research and public health**: policies and projects that enable health data generated at the

point of care, through established feedback loops, to provide deeper, more meaningful

insights about patient groups and improve clinical practice. These insights will inform health

system planning and support the evolution of existing and new treatments and therapies.

Efficiencies will be gained from reduced service duplication and less time spent on

administration.

**Section Responsibilities**

The My Health Record section is responsible for improving the value and utility of My Health

Record (MHR) through influencing and developing informed policy on the use of MHR across

a range of healthcare settings including primary healthcare, acute healthcare, allied health,

mental health, aged care, and disability care. The team builds partnerships with key

stakeholders and delivers initiatives to modernise MHR and significantly increase the health

information available to individuals and their health care professionals. We also work with
